Case of the Mondays

Do you want to punch me in the face for that title? Yeah, me too. Today sure felt like a Monday though. I woke up late (hence the go-to outfit), I got stuck in traffic, two of my three team members were gone today, and I had to spend two hours in a tyvek suit/PAPR (imagine my face in this).

Plus I had to wear a jacket in to work! Gahhhhhh.

Forever

Months ago I feel in love with the idea of a sheer blouse with gold polka dots after seeing one on Wendy (my pin of it here - for some reason it won't go to the blog post). I never actually thought I would find something similar in my price range....but then I found this guy on a quick walk through Forever 21 earlier this week (when I also picked up my not-oxblood sweater).


I think it is my favorite purchase at Forever 21 of all time.

This weekend my friend Alexa and her kiwi boyfriend are staying with me. We are going to the Badger game, playing Monopoly, and enjoying the last few days until they go back to New Zealand. My lifelong friend Julia, who moved to NYC this summer, is also back for the weekend so I'm really excited to have some of my closest girls around.

Maroon, you moron.

Let's be clear here people: the color of my sweater is maroon. I know everyone is pushing "oxblood" right now, but it is and always will be maroon (or burgundy). It is not a new color. It is one of the fall colors EVERY fall.

I got my Revas in the mail yesterday after returning them for a size smaller. My girl Tierney advised me that they are going to take a bit of breaking in, and she's right. They weren't too bad today, but I think it'll take a few days for them to be as comfortable as my other shoes. Other than the breaking in of the upper part of the shoe, they are really comfy - a lot more cushioned than my other black flats, where I might as well be walking barefoot.

Booted

It's finally time for boots! I'm trying not to be too excited about the cooling temperatures because after 20 years of living in Wisconsin, I know what's to come in the next 6 months. I'm holding off on wearing a jacket in to work (I'm afraid once I start I won't be able to stop) but boots I'll do!

I need to take this pair in the cobbler to have them cleaned and prepped for winter but I'm already excited to wear them in the upcoming snowy months.

Go-To

I mentally plan outfits all the time, whether it's while on Pinterest, or seeing someone in real life/ the news/ Instagram/ blogs. Some mornings though, I stand in front of my closet full of clothing I bought, and just blank. It's usually the day my hair is a mess, I'm still sore from running, I'm tired and I just want coffee/climb back into bed. Unfortunately, those bills aren't going to pay themselves and arriving naked would be frowned upon, so I reach for my safety outfit. It's always a combination of black skinny jeans, blue or pink chambray, flats (because I don't have a choice), and a scarf. There's usually some animal print thrown in for fun. It doesn't take much thought, I know it's comfortable, and there are pretty much unlimited possibilities.

Audrey and Marc

I've been a fan of Audrey Hepburn since my family had an Audrey movie night probably a decade ago. Like just about everyone else, I feel in love with her in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Her sass and witt and tiny bird body with those big eyes just won me over, and I've been a fan ever since. I even made and hung a giant picture of her in my bathroom.

My mom bought me this scarf in Germany as a birthday present, and I've been so excited to wear it. In a nod to Audrey, I wanted to keep the rest classic with a bit of sass.

 

I've been looking for some dark/light capped shoes for a long time, especially after seeing how cute they looked on Laura and Whitney. I went on a lunch hour shoe shopping trip to a new DSW and found these Marc by Marc Jacobs flats in the clearance section. They were originally $250, but I got them for $95 (50% discount off the DSW price plus $5 birthday coupon). Although that is 2/3 of my budget for this month, I know that I'll get so much wear out of them. They are still priced at $200 online but your local store may have them on the clearance rack! With the remainder of my October budget I'm hoping to find a tweed blazer to add to my ever growing collection.
